Lucknow: In the annals of Martinian history, the name of La Martiniere Girls’ College, Lucknow, will be forever inscribed in golden letters, commemorating a display of unparalleled skill and indomitable tenacity at this year’s Inter-Martiniere Meet. The final event of the meet, the Swimming Competition, was graced by the distinguished Chief Guest, Mauveen Shaw, former head of the Junior School, whose deep-rooted ties to both Lucknow and Calcutta brought a sense of continuity and tradition to the event.
Following decisive victories in both basketball and debate, girls from LMGC carried that momentum into the water, putting up a fierce fight as they battled stroke for stroke against their opponents. The competition between the two teams was intense.
Vatsala’s performances were particularly noteworthy, securing second place in the 25m Butterfly, 75m Backstroke, and 75m Freestyle events.
This year marked the inaugural establishment of the D Division, a new competitive category that witnessed outstanding performances from the youngest swimmers. Rianna J. Dass led the charge in the 25m backstroke, her speed and strokes as smooth as silk earning her first place in the event.
Afiya Khan further distinguished herself by seizing first place in the 25m Freestyle, proving that even in its first year, the D Division could produce stars of remarkable talent and promise.
Although Kolkata claimed the Endurance and Relay Cups, along with the Swimming Cup, with a decisive score of 266 to 146, La Martiniere Girls’ College, Lucknow emerged as the overall victor in this year’s edition of the Inter-Martiniere Meet, thanks to sweeping victories in the Inter-Martiniere Basketball and Debate Competitions. This year, LMGC conquered.
